Children’s Courses

Sculpture School with Lauren Gault

20 – 21 April 2017

10am – 3pm

£30

A two day sculpture workshop tailored for children aged 6-12 to learn about and expand ideas of what sculpture is, what it can do and how to develop your own unique sculptural language individually and collaboratively. The first workshop will foster a new and expanded approach to the use of materials within sculpture, encouraging diverse responses to objects and use of experimental materials. The second day will initiate ideas around the use of the body, site and outdoors within sculpture, making ambitious collaborative sculptures.

DAY 1 – SUPER SCULPTURE! Children will each be given an object to respond to. They will carry out feeling and visual tests, writing their own written response to the object and its qualities. From there, they will develop their own material vocabulary, developing experimental mixed media sculptures that will describe that object using their own language. These will then be discussed and documented at the end.

DAY 2 – BODIES IN SPACE! The children will use their object responses from the previous day to work together to design and make large modular sculptures using movement, performance and photography to make a range of different forms.
